The HTTP 402 status code has existed since the early internet. It means “Payment Required.” For three decades, nobody could use it practically. Coinbase built the x402 protocol to solve that. It lets AI agents encounter a paywall, pay it instantly using stablecoins, and continue their task — all in fractions of a second. Google, Microsoft, Amazon, Visa, Mastercard, Stripe, Cloudflare, and 20 other major companies joined the x402 Foundation on launch day.

Solana processes transactions in 400 milliseconds at $0.00025 per transaction.
