Full Time Trader and Entrepreneur: What It Gave Me That Acting Never Could

Becoming a full time trader and entrepreneur gave me something acting never could: control of my own time. I loved the work on set, and I am proud of every role I booked. However, the life I have now gives me freedom, real happiness and, most of all, time with my family and time to be a dad.

This is not a story about getting rich quick. Instead, it is about what changes when your schedule finally belongs to you.

What Acting Gave Me, and What It Could Not

For about fourteen years, I worked as an actor. I booked national commercials for brands like Disney, McDonald’s, Ford and Samsung, and I appeared on The Young and the Restless. Those years taught me discipline, how to perform under pressure and how to handle rejection.

Still, acting runs on someone else’s calendar. You wait for the audition, then you wait for the callback, and then you wait for the check. In the meantime, you cannot plan a week with your kids, because a single phone call can change everything. I wrote more about that turning point in why I left Hollywood to trade and build.

How I Became a Full Time Trader

Trading did not come out of nowhere. Before the markets, I spent more than a decade as a professional poker player, starting in 2010. Poker trained me to think in probabilities, to manage risk and to stay calm when money is on the line. Those same skills carried straight into the markets, as I explain in how poker prepared me for trading.

Today, I trade futures as a full time trader. The work is hard, and it is never guaranteed. Even so, it is work I control. I choose when I sit down, I follow my own rules, and I decide when I am done for the day.

Freedom: Owning My Time

The biggest change is simple. My calendar is mine now. If my kids have something that matters to them, I can be there. If a Tuesday afternoon is better spent with family, I get to make that call.

In addition, being an entrepreneur means I build companies on my own terms. Plopjoy, Kevinomics and The Creation Station Studios all run on systems, so they do not need me in every decision. As a result, my time goes where it matters most.

Happiness: Building Instead of Waiting

Acting taught me how to wait. Trading and business taught me how to build. There is a different kind of happiness that comes from creating something instead of hoping someone picks you.

Of course, there are hard days. Markets humble everyone, and businesses have bad months. Nevertheless, even a hard day feels different when the outcome is in your own hands.

Family: Time to Be a Dad

Everything I build, I build for my wife and kids. That is not a slogan; it is the reason I made every one of these changes. I want my children to remember a dad who was present, not a dad who was always waiting by the phone.

Being a full time trader and entrepreneur lets me be there for the everyday moments, not just the big ones. Those moments are worth more to me than any credit on a screen. You can read more about that side of my life in family man, reader, builder.

What I Would Tell Anyone Thinking About It

First, respect the risk. Trading can lose money quickly, and nothing here is financial advice. Learn the rules, start small and protect your capital before you chase returns.

Second, build more than one stream. Trading works best for me alongside businesses that pay the bills and keep growing. Finally, decide what the freedom is for. For me, the answer has always been my family.

If you want help building a business that gives you that same freedom, book a consultation. Or start with Kevinomics for plain-English financial education.
